Why I stopped watching the news on TV
A good number of years ago, I stopped watching the news. I stopped reading newspaper headlines and tabloid magazines.
It seemed every single news report was spun to make it more dramatic. Every segment designed to try to hold you on the edge of your seat, waiting to hear what the final outcome was or would be, or at least keep you tuned in till the next commercial break.
Okay, I get that. It’s all about the money.
But then suddenly it seemed that even the subject matter for the news and newspapers was a reach. Some of it wasn’t even newsworthy.
And to top that off, news shows featured the exact same stories in the morning, at lunch, and twice in the evening.
The same stories, in many cases without any real additional information, told over and over again all throughout the day.
Okay, I can get that. We don’t want anyone to miss out on important news. Someone watching at 6am might not be watching at Noon or at 11pm. I get the reasoning. Again, it’s about audience…
